Elias J. Hayek -- President

Vice President, Legal, EAME Division Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
Mr. Hayek
joined Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. in 2000. He currently
serves as Vice President, Legal for the Europe, Middle East and Africa
division, based in Dubai, UAE. In this role, Mr. Hayek is responsible
for overseeing all regional legal issues for Starwood in the Middle East
and Africa, including managing all the legal issues for the operating
hotels in these regions, and advising the corporate management and hotel
management.

His responsibilities also include leading the legal aspects of the negotiation, drafting and execution of hotel management, franchise and lease agreements, arranging contracts for branded residential and condo projects, and overseeing the acquisition and disposition of hotel assets.
Prior to joining Starwood, Mr. Hayek worked in private practice in California, United States from 1995 to 2000, as a commercial/transactional attorney. Mr. Hayek holds a Juris Doctorate degree, as well as a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (Finance / Economics). He is a licensed member of the attorneys’ bar of the State of California and of the U.S. Federal Courts, and is also a member of the American Bar Association, American Corporate Counsel Association and the California Bar Association. He has been a frequent speaker at hotel industry specific conventions and various legal seminars. He is fluent in English and Arabic, and is conversant in French.

Robert Atkinson

Previously, Mr. Atkinson worked as General Counsel in the Dubai office of Island Global Yachting, a US headquartered company which owns, develops and manages luxury marinas around the world and prior to that in the Dubai office of St Louis based US multinational, Emerson Electric Co.. Before moving to Dubai in 2004, Mr. Atkinson was Company Solicitor for the French car manufacturer Peugeot Citroën having previously qualified at the law firm of Nelsons where he specialised in employment litigation, trying cases over a number of years in UK Tribunals. He graduated from Keele University in 1996 with a dual honours Law/French degree.

Mona Ashour Madi

Mona Madi is General Counsel for Unilever Arabia. Unilever is
an FMCG multinational company with over 400 brands in home &
personal care, foods and beverages, including such well-known
brands as Dove, Vaseline, Lipton, Axe, Lux, Sunsilk and Knorr.
Prior to joining Unilever, she was a senior lawyer with the law
firm of Al Tamimi & Company, the largest local non-affiliated
law firm in the UAE, where her areas of practice
included corporate/commercial law, intellectual property, IT and
media. |
She is a U.S. qualifed attorney. She has published numerous articles in various
publications, including "The GCC and the WTO" (published in The Gulf View
Journal), "Judgment for International Company in Pharmaceutical Trademark Case"
(published in Middle East Executive Reports), "Publication Rights on the
Internet" (published in PC Magazine), "Metatags and Trademark Infringement"
(published in PC Magazine) and "Patent Law in the UAE" (published in the
International Bar Association Newsletter). She has also spoken at a number of
seminars such as the Seminar on IT Law in the UAE (where she spoke on the
"Latest Developments in Copyright Protection and Enforcement"), the Seminar on
Commercial Agencies in the UAE (where she spoke on "Parallel Imports in the UAE
and Whether the Commercial Agencies Law is Compliant with the WTO" and "Whether
the Commercial Agencies Law Protects Your Trademark or Brand Name"), the Seminar
on the Settlement of Disputes in the Era of Telecommunications, Information
Technology and E-Business" in Bahrain (where she spoke on "Online Dispute
Resolution") and the IP in the Middle East 2007 conference (where she spoke on
"Trademarks and Brand Protection").

Tim Hagan

Tim is from the United States, having lived most of his life in Houston, Texas.
He received his legal training at Vanderbilt University and completed his
undergraduate studies in Accounting and Finance at the University of Kentucky.

John is based at BHI’s regional headquarters in Dubai, and is responsible for the implementation and management of the company’s ethics and compliance program in the Eastern Hemisphere, which includes Africa, Europe, Russia/Caspian, Middle East and Asia Pacific Regions. |
John has legal experience in both private and in-house practice, and working for the U.S. government. Prior to joining BHI, John was Deputy Compliance Officer & Counsel–Litigation with St. Louis-based Charter Communications, Inc., a Fortune 400 broadband communications company. He previously also worked with Bryan Cave LLP, an international law firm with over 1,100 lawyers. John’s governmental experience includes service as a Special Assistant United States Attorney with the office of the Special Counsel John C. Danforth - Waco Investigation and as an Assistant County Counselor for St. Louis County.
John earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from California State University at Long Beach, and a law degree from St. Louis University. He is member of the Missouri Bar.

She is currently Vice President, Legal - Majid Al Futtaim Properties LLC,
focusing particularly on hospitality related matters, including acquisition,
hotel development, operator appointment, construction, operations and asset
management. Prior to joining Majid Al Futtaim, Tara practised within the
Commercial Property department of Al Tamimi & Co, and has over 4 years legal
experience within the local region. Prior to locating to Dubai, Tara practiced
law for several years in London as a specialist commercial property, development
and construction lawyer.”

Franklin Breckenridge -- Group

Franklin E. Breckenridge, Jr., J.D., M.B.A. received a Doctor of Jurisprudence, attaining the distinction, cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis. Mr. Breckenridge has a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University Kelley School of Business and Bachelor of Arts degree with a major area of concentration in Spanish Language from Wabash College. Mr. Breckenridge is fluent in Spanish.
Mr. Breckenridge is a former law clerk to the Honorable Justice Frank Sullivan, Jr. of the Supreme Court of Indiana. He has held positions in the private practice of law, government, and private industry, including having been Assistant Project Director and lawyer for the Indianapolis Airport Authority's one billion dollar new airport project.
Mr. Breckenridge is currently a member of the Contracts Department, Parsons MENA.
